We took the existing shield motif, and used it to create a visual identity that built on the heritage and history of the school and reflected its vision, mission and principles moving forward.

Whilst rooted in the integrity and tradition of a broad, full, high quality modern education, the identity reflects the particularly creative learning environment of this specialist Performing Arts school.

It is dynamic in look and flexible in application which means it will continue to look fresh, new and relevant.

It is also intended to evolve as it is embraced and used by staff and students - it is 'designed' to be adaptable and can be enhanced in use. This means it can be truly owned and really taken on by the school community.

The identity comprises two main elements:

• Firstly a simple typographic logo incorporating the shield. This is the 'corporate stamp' of the identity, and represents the established heritage of the Sudbury School 'brand'.

• Secondly the 'SUS' motif has been created using a font especially created for Sudbury Upper School. The motif incorporates the school motto: 'create, value, achieve'.

The font has been designed so that it can be created in different textures, textiles and images. This can give it a unique distinction for different areas around the school. The images, or even the letterforms themselves, can be created by students. The letterforms can appear on signs and boards around the school, drawing everything
together under the common identity.
